2006 Rendezvous Report

78 Tollycrafts and about 180 people attended the Sept 14-17 Rendezvous in sunny weather at Telegraph Harbour Marina on Thetis Island.  The theme this year was TOLLYWOOD – so from the large Tollywood sign on shore to the costumes, decorated boats and music – it was the movies.

Several boats arrived on Tuesday and about 25 were there on Wednesday. Apparently there was a wonderful Margarita Party on Wednesday Night.

By Thursday about 60 + boats were tied up.  We were delighted to see that 20 vessels from the USA attended this year. The corn & rib roast was a great success on Thursday  night.

On Fri. – 48 ladies attended the Ladies Lunch in the Pavilion – catered by Barbara Williamson from the marina.  Wonderful by all accounts.

The annual –On the Dock – reception on Friday night was quite a display of culinary delights that sprung out of all the galleys.  Great weather prevailed.  Door prizes were drawn by boat name and every boat present received a prize.

On Saturday, oh yes, sunny again, there were boat open houses, volleyball, bocci, poker, and the Cook Off at noon.  Theresa Coridor (Balcori) managed the event which featured about 14 chefs providing their renditions of “Macaroni and Cheese”.  For a toonie, one could taste the best Mac & Cheese and about 90 Tollycruisers did just that.  Winner of the Cook Off was Gary Salmon (Touche) who was assisted n the galley by his old friend Marv Ferg from Victoria and Bud Cooper’s (Crown Royal) daughter Valerie.

Finally the BBQ,  which started at 1640 this year. Entertainment was provided by the duo of DAN & MARC.  Dan Hughes was on Trumpet while Marc Wald used an amazing electronic keyboard.  Marc, at age 85, was amazing – he was a member of the old group – Mike, Marc & Jack – THE RHYTHM PALS, who were regulars on The Tommy Hunter Show on CBC Television for many years.  They played a variety of tunes from the movies. After the dinner, they were joined on the deck by Stan Wardill who amazed everyone with his skill on the Trumpet and in song.  Stan is only 86 years young and in addition to playing the horn, he also just installed new diesel engines in his 37’Tolly Hornblower.

Sunday morning started with clouds and some drizzle but nevertheless more than 300 Pancakes were served on the dock along with a significant number of MIMOSAS.  Gary Salmon, Marv Ferg and Laurie Rae looked after the grill.

All in all, another great Tollycruisers Rendezvous!

Next year the theme is ‘HARD TIMES’ and the food for the Cook Off is ‘POTATOES
